Identify lines of symmetry
Learning Objective: Students will be able to identify, describe, and analyze shapes and their properties, and calculate measurements like perimeter and area.
About Geometry
What is Geometry?
Geometry is the study of shapes, their properties, and spatial relationships. It includes identifying shapes, measuring angles, and calculating perimeter and area.
Why is it important?
Geometry develops spatial reasoning and visualization skills. These skills are used in art, architecture, engineering, and everyday tasks like reading maps.
Common Challenges
- Distinguishing between similar shapes (rectangles vs squares)
- Understanding 3D shapes from 2D drawings
- Calculating perimeter vs area
Tips for Practice
- Find shapes in the real world
- Use tangrams and pattern blocks
- Draw shapes and label their parts
- 4.G.A.1Covers key concepts in the geometry domain.

How to Help Your Child
Perimeter is the distance AROUND a shape (add all sides). Area is the space INSIDE (multiply length x width for rectangles). A common mix-up is confusing the two — perimeter is measured in units (inches), area in square units (square inches).
