From Seed to Plant
Have you ever planted a seed and watched it grow? All plants start as tiny seeds. A seed holds everything a plant needs to begin growing. With the right conditions, a seed can become a tall, strong plant. When a seed gets water and warmth, it starts to germinate. A small root pushes down into the soil. Then a tiny stem pushes up toward the light. This baby plant is called a seedling. The seedling needs sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil to keep growing. Leaves appear and start making food for the plant using sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis. The stem grows taller and the roots grow deeper. When the plant is fully grown, it may produce flowers. The flowers make seeds that can grow into new plants. Then the cycle starts all over again. This is how plants have been growing for millions of years!
